
CHANDIGARH, Feb 26: Burail jail-break case again came up today for further recording of evidence in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge S.S. Lamba.
Cross examination of Deepak Gupta, deputy manager, Essar Commvision Ltd, was held today. Yesterday, in his examination-in-chief, he had stated that telephone number 9815078457 was issued by Essar in the name of Lakhwinder Singh. He deposed today that Lakhwinder Singh had two telephones. The signature on the application were not legible and the witness did not identify Lakhwinder in the court.
Labh Singh, working as a laboratory attendant in the Health Department, PHC, Gurwan, today stated that he had appeared as a prosecution witness in some cases. Yesterday, during his cross examination, Labh Singh had stated that he had not appeared in 12 to 15 cases at Chandigarh, nor had he appeared as a witness in the case of Dilsher Singh.
Dalbir Singh, Assistant Jail Superintendent, Chandigarh, was also called for evidence today. He brought the visiting registers and the appointment letter of S.P. Misra, the then assistant jail superintendent today. He stated that at the administrative level they were never aware of any such scheme of jail-break.
Shamsher Singh of Chanalo village today stated that on June 11, 1998 Dilsher Singh was standing at the nakabandi. After sometime, Charanjeet Singh came there who later admitted his name to be Satnam Singh. Some explosive was recovered from his possession, he stated.
Nawab Ali, barber, did not support the prosecution story today and stated that he did not know any Baljit Singh.
