NEW DELHI, March 7: The final report of the Jain Commission on the conspiracy aspect of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination was submitted to the Union Home Ministry by the one-man panel today.

The nine-volume report was handed over to Home Secretary B P Singh by Commission Secretary D R Luthra, ending the six-year-long investigations into the conspiracy aspect.

While the Home Secretary refused to reply to any question after receiving the sealed packet in his North Block office, the panel secretary replied in the affirmative when asked whether this was the final report.

The 17-volume interim report, submitted to the Home Ministry last August, had caused a storm with the Congress withdrawing support to the UF, leading to the mid-term election. Sources said the panel recommended further probe into several aspects of the wider conspiracy which it came across during the last two months. These included the judgement of the designated trial court in TN which convicted all the 26 accused and sentenced them to death.
