ARNOS VALE, ST VINCENT, June 21: Sri Lanka slowly consolidated its advantage during a rain-interrupted morning session today the second day of the second cricket Test against the West Indies.
Resuming on 157 for three, Sri Lanka added 28 runs in 15 overs, losing one wicket. They reached lunch at 185 for four, a lead of 38.
Sanath Jayasuriya, who had launched the visitors’ reply on the first day with an unbeaten 80, stretched his score to 90, in sight of his third Test century. But he was not the flamboyant strokemaker of Friday. He did not hit a boundary and his 10 runs took him 70 minutes and 39 balls.
Earlier on Friday fast-bowler Ravindra Pushpakumara grabbed five wickets to rip apart the West Indies’s first innings, taking five for 41 off 12.4 overs as the home team were routed for 147 in spite of Carl Hooper’s classy 81.
