Calcutta, Mar 7: East Bengal displayed poor marksmanship despite an overall supremacy to finish goalless with JCT Mills, Phagwara, in a fourth National Football League encounter on Tuesday.

East Bengal were also unlucky as Emmanuel Opoku’s grounder hit the post after beating JCT custodian Baljit Singh in the 37th minute.

The Ghanaian medio, who had a good day, also created trouble in the 15th minute, as his powerful shot slipped out of Baljit’s grip, but the custodian recovered to collect the ball in his second attempt.

East Bengal’s moves also lacked sting, with their star striker Brazilian Ossius Louis Fereira running all around but failing to make much of an impact.

JCT, who adopted a defensive approach employing all but one man in the defence, had a chance in the 21st minute, following a gross lapse of East Bengal goalkeeper Prashanta Dora. Failing to deal properly with an innocuous ball, Dora landed it near opponent striker Sukhjit Singh who found himself in the clear but his shot sailed over.

From 20 outings, JCT now have 31 points, while East Bengal are five points behind.
