JALANDHAR, Jan 27: The Punjab unit of the Janata Dal today called upon Chief Minister P. S. Badal and SGPC president G. S. Tohra to end their feud in the interest of the state. The party has also decided to met the Punjab Governor tomorrow to "apprise" him of the current political situation in the state and the problems being faced by people due to the "misrule" of the SAD-BJP government.
In a statement here, party coordinator, Harish Khanna said that development activities in the state had come to a standstill due to the continuing feud between Badal and Tohra. He alleged that the Akali government had failed to start any development activities in the past two years of its rule and had proved to be totally "non-functional." Khanna also apprehended that terrorist outfits had started re-grouping once again and added that they could take advantage of the internal feud within the Akali Dal and start their nefarious activities.
The Janata Dal leader said Akali leaders should understand their responsibilities towards providing a good, clean and responsive administration to the people.
He alleged that the government had failed to root out corruption from the state, while unemployment was rising.
Haryana Akali Dal appeals for unity
Karnal: Haryana state Akali Dal vice president Surinder Singh Sandhu has appealed, both to the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh badal and Shiromani Gurudawara Prabandhak Committee president Gurcharan Singh Tohra, to sink differences and participate in the tercentenary celebrations of the panth in a spirit of amity and goodwill. He said that the last few years had been very difficult for the Sikhs and Punjab, therefore, it was time that both, by their sagacious deeds, proved that they had learnt some precious lessons from the recent past.
Talking to ENS here today, Sandhu said that with a membership of over ten thousand and branches in all the districts of Haryana, the Haryana State Akali Dal had always extended issue based support to political parties and was not tied to the apron strings of any particular outfit.
Sandhu further averred that the present rift was more an outcome of personal ego than any political or religious ideology. He said the rift, if allowed to become a chasm, would only help the enemies of the panth who were waiting in the wings to bounce back into power.
He also appealed to the Akal Takhat Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh to listen to the advice given by Jagdev singh Talwandi and not hesitate to revise the hukamnama if it festered unity among the Sikhs and averted the disintegration of the panth. “If a hundred years ago, another Jathedar of Akal Takht, Man Singh could revise the hukamnama why could it not be revised today, when the panth was facing far wider issues?”he asked.
