A case of murder has been lodged against ruling JD(U) MLA Anant Singh and six others.
Police sources said that the deceased, Sanjay Kumar Singh, was a cousin of the MLA and the killing was a result of a long-drawn gang war-cum-family feud.
Both the MLA and the deceased hail from Ladma village in Barh sub-division of Patna district. Sanjay, too, had criminal antecedents and operated as a petty contractor. Sources said Sanjay was shot by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday afternoon inside the Rural Engineering Organisation (REO) office in Patna.
Sanjay, reportedly, had an altercation with four unidentified persons outside the REO office. Thereafter, he was seen running towards the REO office as the four men chased him brandishing pistols.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station Abhay Narain Singh said that an FIR under Section 302 of IPC had been lodged against Anant Singh and six others. The FIR was lodged by the a deceased’s brother Arvind Kumar Singh. “Anant Singh and his henchmen have killed my brother,” Arvind told reporters. The police, so far, have not arrested the ruling party MLA.
Anant Singh was recently in news for his alleged involvement in the murder of a girl working in a beauty parlour. Later, however, the investigating team gave him a clean chit and declared that the murder was a plot hatched by a city builder to frame the MLA.
