JeevV Milkha Singh shot an even par last round to finish the BMW PGA Championships at tied 12th. Jeev had earlier shot into contention for a top-ten finish after a superb five-under third round, but was unable to rise further up the leaderboard today.
The title was won by Denmark’s Anders Hansen, who beat Briton Justin Rose at the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. Rose (71) and Hansen (69) were tied on eight-under 280 at the end of the regulation 72 holes.
Britons Ross Fisher (84) and Paul Broadhurst (80), the joint overnight leaders, could not come to terms with the persistent rain that fell on the West Course in Surrey.
Jeev finished four rounds at three-under 285. All the four birdies for Jeev today came on the back nine. With back-to-back birdies on the third and the fourth holes, it looked like he was in fine touch and cruising for a top-ten spot. A bogey on the fourth was followed yet again by consecutive birdies, on the eighth and the ninth, that ensured he made the turn at three-under. But a disastrous back nine spoiled his card. After bogeying the 11th, the par-four 13th had the final say, as the 2006 Asia number one double bogeyed the hole.
Among other Indians, both Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur ended the tournament on sorry notes. After a free fall yesterday, the last round was also forgettable for both.
Randhawa shot six-over to end at joint 60th, with a nine-over for the tournament. Kapur was even worse, with a nine-over round today. He ended sole 67th at twelve-over.
Randhawa had two birdies, but six bogeys and a double proved his undoing. Kapur never got hold of his game today, making seven bogeys and a double bogey.
