NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 5: Former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani has not said goodbye to controversies yet. The veteran lawyer has turned author and has decided to tell it all in what promises to be an “explosive” book, slated for release later this month.
The book, whose title Big Egos, Small Men itself is indication enough of what’s on offer, is expected to create ripples in political and judicial circles since it focuses on the heady events leading to Jethmalani’s exit from the NDA government.
Har Anand, the publishers of the 200-page book, has scheduled the release for October 23.
The former Law Minister told The Indian Express that the purpose of writing the book was to “expose the conspiracy against the political system of the country.” He said the book was not merely his version of the events which led to his abrupt exit from the Union Cabinet. “It’s not my side of the story since I don’t consider myself the victim of what happened… It’s just that I wanted to put all the material relating to those events in one place so that people can judge for themselves,” Jethmalani said.
Big Egos, Small Men is also going to make many in the NDA Government see red since Jethmalani has not been very charitable to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Arun Jaitley and, not to forget, Soli Sorabjee.
Jethmalani’s preface to the book suggests what he had in mind: “This is not an apology or attempt at defence. It is not a petition to the Prime Minister seeking forgiveness or a supplication to induct me back into his cabinet. It is our Constitution and our political system that have been badly mauled. A grave injury is caused to public probity and confidence in the exalted ones who come to man our institutions, is badly shaken.”
