Sudhir Murmu has an MA degree from Ranchi University. He has been looking for a teacher’s job for the last two years but in vain. But now, with the Jharkhand government introducing 18 new languages as optional subjects in the Class XII curriculum, there is reason to smile for educated tribal youths like Murmu.
The new languages which now form part of the syllabus include Sanskrit and 17 tribal and regional languages like Ho, Santhali, Kuduk and Mundari. The new syllabus was approved by the Jharkhand Intermediate Council (JIC) on Thursday.
The government seems to have timed the decision eyeing the upcoming polls to open up fresh avenues of employment for tribals, who comprise over 25 pc of the state’s population. BJP state unit spokesperson, Uma Shanker Kedia said the state government’s move will brighten the party’s prospects in the forthcoming polls.
