The annual Durbar move of the Jammu and Kashmir government from Srinagar to Jammu in winter may get a go by this year. The government moves out of the Valley usually on September 26 and starts operating from Jammu on the first Monday of November. Moving files and documents and setting up offices in Jammu takes about two weeks.

Senior MHA officials said this year, if the move happens, it may hit relief and rehabilitation in the quake-hit areas. The issue has been discussed at various levels and the majority view is that the state government should continue to function from Srinagar this time. A final decision will, however, have to be taken by the Mufti government.

The Centre and state are still struggling to provide relief to the affected villages. There is an acute shortage of tents and with winters fast approaching, there is a possibility that the death toll will rise.

Besides, there are several villages in the Teetwal valley that are yet to be receive proper relief. What is perhaps obstructing a quick decision is the proposed change of guard in the J&K government. The Mufti government is expected to hand over the reigns to the Congress as per the pact
