Joglekar slams ton as Tatas take lead

Bowling their regular bowlers — Robin Morris and Omkar Salvi — for just 20 of the 89.5 overs, Sun-Grace Mafatlal tried 10 bowlers on the day. And they had just two successes to show for their efforts with the second success coming on the fifth delivery of the final over of the day bowled by Nayan Mongia. Donning the gloves instead of Mongia was Atul Bedade, the only Sun-Grace man not to have turned his arm over.

Joglekar, batting out through the day, stayed unconquered on 158 (259 balls, 359 minutes, 23×4, 2×6). Had his opening partner Nikhil Haldipur showed the same resolve, he probably would have not fell two short of what would have a well-deserved century. Haldipur (98: 149b, 220m, 10×4) slashed Pagnis straight to Milind Tamhane at point after having put on 216 runs for the opening wicket with Joglekar in 52.3 overs.

The dismissal brought in the burly southpaw Kiran Powar and the former India under-19 captain immediately set about destroying the attack with his vast repertoire of strokes to score 109 (129b, 138m, 19×4).
