CHANDIGARH, Nov 11: The 61st Strogh's Junior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championship will be held at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall here from November 20 to 25. Addressing mediapersons, Chandigarh Table Tennis Association president P K Verma said the team championship finals would be held on November 22. The meet, with a budget of Rs eight lakh, will proivde cash incentives of Rs 7,000 to the winners.More than 300 players, including girls, from 26 states and union territories will vie for the team titles as well as individual events singles and doubles. The team championships as well as individual events will be on league-cum-knockout basis.For the team championships, the teams will be divided into four to five groups for the round robin stage. Table Tennis Federation of India has appointed Gopal Rawat of Uttar Pradesh as the chief referee. He will prepare the draws.Elaborate arrangements have been made for the comfortable stay of participants and officials. Arjuna Awardee and eight-time national champion Kamlesh Mehta will inaugurate the championship on November 20 at 10 a.m. while Arjuna awardee and former national champion Mrs Mona Lisa Mehta will be the guest of honour.Handball teamKanwaljeet will lead Panjab University men's team in the North Zone Inter-University handball championship to be held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, from November 12 to 16.Other members of the team: Hardeep, Gurcharan Singh, Gursewak, Harcharan, Naresh, Ajit Pal, Ramandeep, Vikesh, Devinder Negi, Ravi Kumar, and Sarbpreet Singh.
