India are just a step away from a never-before semi-final berth in the Junior Davis Cup after they crushed Morocco 3-0 in their second league encounter on Wednesday. India next play the Czech Republic, also unbeaten in the group.

A loss would still put India in with a chance to improve on their best ever performance — a 9th place six years back. With fingers crossed, coach Sandeep Kirtane said, ‘‘the Czechs are tough but very beatable.’’

Speaking to The Indian Express from Barcelona, Kirtane conceeds ‘‘the way our guys are playing

the chances are 50-50. We will have to just up our game to maximum if we’ve to pull through.’’

Kirtane’s confidence stems from the fact that the Indians, particularly Rupesh Roy, have played well despite the conditions. With cloudy skies enveloping the Real Club de Polo, it was the heaviness of the balls that pushed Roy to the maximum in the second singles against Reda El Amrani.
