A controversial 16-page booklet that brands Sonia Gandhi as a security threat if she’s made the prime minister has appeared in Chhattisgarh.

With over 30,000 copies ready for distribution, the booklet questions Sonia on her connections with Ottavio Quattrocchi and her eagerness to become a voter in 1980 without becoming an Indian citizen. She acquired the citizenship in 1983.

Available in English and Hindi, the booklet, Issue of Foreign Origin, Sonia under scrutiny, is edited by one A. Surya Prakash. A BJP candidate claimed that the booklet’s Hindi version has maximum demand in Raipur, Durg, Jashpur, Raigarh and Rajnandgaon districts. More copies are expected to reach Mahasamund and Bilaspur districts.

Though the BJP denies its hand in distributing the booklet, it appreciates the effort. ‘‘We don’t have any hand in its distribution but the party appreciates the initiative to educate the voters about choice of Prime Ministership,’’ says BJP spokesperson Saroj Pandey.

Angry Congress leaders have threatened to approach the EC to ban the booklet. Contributors to the booklet include Swadeshi Jagaran Manch convenor S. Gurumurthy, Gautam Siddharth and Hiranmay Karlekar.
