The ongoing controversy over Kaanta Laga girl Shefali Jariwala’s performance in Vadodara this week seems to be showing signs of a thaw with both the organisers and the VHP indicating that they have reached a mutual understanding which will see the programme through without any disruption.

The thaw has come through after the organisers assured the VHP that the show will not be titillating. However, the VHP has said they will watch it from the sidelines to ensure that the organisers keep their word.

Meanwhile, the programme is now being projected as one in support of the ‘‘No Drugs’’ drive in association with the WHO.

Pawan Sharma of Boom Events and Promotions, the managers of the show, said: ‘‘The programme is meant to create an awareness among the youth against tobacco and drug addiction. Shefali is the celebrity who will draw the youth to the show. I guarantee that from her dressing to the show content, nothing will offend people’s sensibilities.”

Ajay Joshi, Vadodara district head of the VHP, said: ‘‘We have no intention of disrupting the show. The organisers have promised us passes to watch the it and we will do just that.’’ Police, on its part, said they could act only when intimated.
