PUNE, 17: While former municipal commissioner Arun Bhatia had revoked the permission given to Sai Service Station Pvt Ltd owned by Suresh Kalmadi for using the back margin of Savarkar Bhavan, two corporators have moved a resolution asking the administration to extend the agreement by another five years.
Shivaji Kshirsagar of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi and Satish Londhe of the Congress had submitted a letter to the standing committee on June 1, which was later passed at a meeting. The resolution was later hurriedly included in this month’s agenda of the general body.
The resolution, however, is expected to meet with stiff opposition since BJP-Sena had already announced its decision to oppose it. Nationalist Congress party and a section of Congress corporators are also expected to oppose the resolution.Sai Services was given permission to erect three sheds in the rear margin of Savarkar Bhavan for five years in February 1994. The corporation charged rent of Rs 30,334 every month. The resolution has proposed to increase the rent by 10 per cent and extend the lease by another five years.
It may be recalled that Bhatia had revoked the permission last month, asking Sai Service to vacate the space. Bhatia’s letter had categorically stated that the permission granted by the PMC was illegal since it was in violation of the development control rules. Bhatia had stated that the corporation had found that Sai Services was using the space for display of new vehicles instead of parking. Sai Services, however, had not vacated the space and continued its use.
The issue of refreshment and petrol allowance was also hurriedly included in the agenda. The resolution says municipal commissioner’s orders on May 18 and 29, curtailing the refreshment allowance of the mayor, deputy mayor, standing committee chairman, leader of the house and leader of the opposition be cancelled. It says the municipal commissioner had issued the orders even though it had budgetary provision. Stating that any change in budgetary provision need approval of standing committee and general body also, the resolution says the municipal commissioner should not make any changes in the budgetary provision.
