Actor Kamal Haasan today put an end to the controversy over his latest film, Sandiayar, by announcing that he would be renaming the movie.
Haasan, who had a 45-minute discussion with Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, told mediapersons that all his problems were over.‘‘I explained my problems. Since the title of the movie has created a controversy, I have decided to change it,’’ he said, adding he won’t require any police protection.
Though he maintained that he was yet to find a suitable name for the movie, the actor hoped whatever the title, the movie would be a hit at the box office since it had a good theme. ‘‘Even a name like Sakalakalavallavan II would do,’’ he chuckled.
Refusing to disclose further details about his meeting with the Chief Minister, Haasan said the shooting of the movie would begin soon since ‘‘all the problems have been solved.’’ On the shooting location, all he would say was that the film would be shot in Tamil Nadu. Asked if it would be Theni district, he said: ‘‘I will tell you later.’’
Asked about those who tried to gain political mileage out of the controversy, Haasan said he would respond to them through his movie. ‘‘The issue is settled, that is all,’’ he added. The actor made it clear that no suggestion came from the CM to change the title of the film. ‘‘I myself decided to change the name. She welcomed my decision, saying it was a good idea,’’ he explained.
‘‘I know my script. There is nothing controversial. Whatever the public came to know so far was only the title,’’ the actor said. Meanwhile, Puthiya Tamizhagan leader K. Krishnasamy, who seemed to have scored a brownie point through Haasan, expressed his satisfaction. However, he said neither the film nor the dialogues should glorify any caste.
‘‘The veecharival (violence) culture should not be promoted,’’ he stressed.
