CHANDIGARH, NOV 25: Kamaljit Singh, who claims to be the husband of the late Harpreet Kaurm has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court for cancellation of the bail granted to SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, in view of the siege laid outside his house by Bibi’s supporters. The petition is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.
The petitioner, through his counsel Ranjit Singh Randhawa, has alleged that Bibi was misusing the concession of bail granted to her by the High Court and was acting in vengeance against the petitioner. He has stated in the petition that a mob of about 200 to 300 people gheraoed his house in his native village, Begowal at the behest of Bibi Jagir Kaur and he and his family members were kept virtually captive for about seven hours.
Jagir Kaur was reportedly in Begowal to attend a marriage and was sitting in the house of a resident Dalip Singh of the village. Despite repeated requests by the complainant the police did not bother to register an FIR. The petition states that when they tried to contact the DSP and the SHO of the area, both were found to be sitting with Bibi in the village.
Kamaljit has alleged that the crowd outside his house was sent by Bibi. He has mentioned more than a dozen names whom he could identify at the time of the gherao. He added that Bibi is intimidating them also.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court earlier granted bail to Bibi in the case related to her daughter Harpreet’s death. The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case of murder in Harpreet’s death. In the present petition, Kamaljit has made the CBI one of the respondents. The petition has been filed under section 439 of Cr.P.C. to seek cancellation of bail.
