Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati today filed a petition in the Supreme Court in the Radhakrishnan assault case of 2002, challenging the December 10 order of a Chennai Principal Sessions Court declining bail to him. He was formally arrested in this case on November 23.

Yesterday, his advocate Krishna Kumar had filed another petition seeking bail in the case relating to the murder of Sankararaman.

A bench headed by Chief Justice R.C. Lahoti is likely to hear both the petitions tomorrow.

In his petition filed today by Krishna Kumar, the seer submitted that there was a concerted effort by the Tamil Nadu police to tarnish his image.
