KANNUR, DEC 4: The situation in the violence-torn parts in Kerala’s Kannur district continued to remain volatile on Saturday.

Tension mounted after a bomb attack on a convoy carrying Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders after the cremation of their slain worker K Kunhikannan at Kuttieri near Panoor Saturday evening.

Police said a group of suspected Bharatiya Janata Party-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers hurled bombs at vehicles in which the CPI-M district secretary E P Jayarajan, and other CPI (M) leaders who attended the cremation were travelling. The bombs, however, missed their target and fell on the jeep carrying CPI (M) wokers.

Altogether 13 CPI (M) workers suffered minor injuries in the attack and were admitted to the Thalassery Co-operative Hospital, police said.
