MUMBAI, Dec 26: A high-powered committee led by former Test star Kapil Dev would probe into fiasco at Indore yesterday leading to abandonment of One-day tie between India and Sri Lanka on account of sub-standard pitch.
President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Raj Singh Dungarpur today constituted the committee comprising seven former cricketers which would also look into various aspects of suitability of the grounds in different parts of the country considered for hosting international fixtures, BCCI secretary Jayant Lele said in a statement issued here.
The committee would probe the Indore fiasco and inspect all the centres allotted by BCCI during the forthcoming tour of Australia and Zimbabwe in February-April 1998 and recommend suitability of the venues to hold such international matches.
Besides Kapil Dev, the other committee members are Kasturi Rangan, Daljit Singh, Dhiraj Prasana, Arun Lal, Vinod Mathur and Sharad Diwadkar as the convenor, he added.
The committee has been urged to submit its report on both the above counts by January 27, 1998, Lele said.
The committee would oversee the preparation of grounds and pitches including practice pitches at the recommended venues, Lele said.
It would visit rest of the grounds in the country which are on the approved list of BCCI and where international matches were held in the past and recommend suitability of the venues where international matches could be held in the future, he added.
Lele further stated that the report of the committee on both these counts was awaited by March 31, 1998.
