MUMBAI, APRIL 4: Fighting for the top spot in Group B, Karnatak Sporing Association and Century Rayon took to the field in an encounter that saw fortunes swing precariously.

Eventually, both teams had to split points in the second Mucos Pharma Veterans football tournament organised by the Karnatak Sports Association played at the KSA grounds, Cross Maidan.

Karnatak Sports Association looked promising initially affecting many attempts near the goal. Prakash Shetty’s shot from the right would have easily found the box instead of which he passed it to Derryck Aanchan on the extreme left, messing up a close chance. Almost immediately, Century Rayon’s George D’Lima managed to clear the mid-field initiating a header that missed the bar by inches. Minutes later, Kareem C’s bicycle kick met with the same fate.

KSA ‘keeper Karia Ameen was under serious attack throughout the first half as the onslaught continued even after the breather. Century, especially with D’Lima played a faster game giving KSA worries galore. He struck an absolute flier, but a diving Ameen blocked it at the goalline.

KSA’s Balalkrishna Kunder was impressive upfront but sorely lacked support. In the earlier matches, Central Railway drubbed IDBI by eight goals. Francis Fernandes and Joe Monteiro with three goals apiece, and solos from Madan Lal and Vidhyadharan Nair were the stars in their win.

Last year’s winners, Tatas lost by four goals to Indian Oil. Camillo D’Silva struck a brace with Joaquim Menezes and Kalyan Sarkar scoring a goal apiece.

ARTY scrape through
ARTY defeated ARC by a half goal handicap in Tuesday’s Low Goal polo match of the Glucon D Heinz 55th Annual Cavalcade and polo tournament at the Malalazmi Race Course. The final score was 5.5-5.
