The last of the three Airbus aircrafts slated as part of aid to Afghanistan by India was handed over formally to Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here today.

Newly painted and sporting Ariana — the State-owned airlines of Afghanistan —colours, the Airbus 300 B4 will be flying to Kabul with the visiting President.

Acknowledging the aid, Karzai said: ‘‘It is very kind of the Indian Government to provide such assistance to Afghanistan. Already two planes in the Ariana fleet have been gifted by them. We are grateful and appreciate this kind gesture.’’

Earlier, Minister of Civil Aviation Shahnawaz Hussain hoped that the assistance provided by New Delhi would be of use to Kabul. ‘‘With the handing of this aircraft, India has fulfilled its commitment to Afghanistan.’’
