PUNE, June 19: Police Commissioner K K Kashyap’s novel experiment to help road accident victims has been launched in the form of the Jeevan Raksha Samiti, a broad-based committee with senior government officials and representatives of various non-government organisations (NGOs) as its members.

The formal announcement about the formation of the committee was made at a press conference at the Police Commissionerate addressed jointly by Police Commissioner K K Kashyap and the managing trustee of Kum Rajashri Parmar Memorial Foundation Chandmal Parmar this morning. The first meeting of the committee members will be organised on Saturday, Kashyap and Parmar said.

The Commissioner of Police, Pune is the chairman of the committee while the Managing Trustee of the Kum Rajashri Parmar Memorial Foundation will be the honorary secretary.

The committee, according to the police commissioner, will ensure that the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident will rush the injured to the nearest hospital with trauma unit and that the hospital authorities provide immediate medical treatment to the victim.

The committee will also encourage and facilitate the good Samaritans, not involved in accident, in rushing the injured to the nearest such trauma unit. If required, the committee will reimburse the expenses made by such Samratians in shifting the injured, Kashyap added.

It will also ensure that if the Samaritan is not subjected to any inconvenience either by the police personnel or by hospital authorities, he said.

The Jeevan Raksha Samiti will also pursue any negligence in providing immediate medical treatment to victims by all means including the legal arena, Parmar said. The Kum Rashri Parmar Memorial Foundation will finance the committee for the time being.
