The Maharashtra police today booked Iqbal Kaskar, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, and two others under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on charges of extortion and robbery.

They were produced before designated judge A.P. Bhangale amidst tight security. The other accused are Abdul Rehman Abdul Gafoor and Satta Teli.

The three were earlier in police custody and charged under various sections of IPC for forcibly evicting a woman from her hut, which obstructed a shopping centre in South Mumbai.

Police said Abdul Rehman and Sattar Teli on instructions from Iqbal forcibly evicted Nafisa Sheikh from her hut near Manish Market in January this year. They said Rehman and Sattar sought instructions from Iqbal on telephone when he was in Dubai.

The two had lured Nafisa with Rs 7 lakh to vacate the hut but she refused. Then they forcibly took away her ration card and evicted her, police alleged. Police said Iqbal had indulged in land-grabbing through his henchmen to benefit Dawood’s organised crime syndicate.
