CHANDIGARH, Oct 13: Amit Khaitan of Jamshedpur returned the best card of the day in the under-18 boys category on the opening day of St Xavier’s Northern India Junior and Sub-Junior golf tournament at the Chandigarh Golf Course here today. The Jamshedpur golfer carded a three-over-par round 75. He gained one stroke lead over Parkshit Gandhi of Patna and Raghav Jaggi of Lucknow. Chandigarh’s Sahir Singh was at the fourth place with a six-over-par 78.

Chandigarh’s Prince Dhillon and Jamshed shared the lead in the boys under-15 category with an identical score of 86. One stroke behind the leaders was Lakhan Singh while M P Pathania and Mohmad Wasir shared the fourth spot with 88 each.

Vikram Nandra Jog of Delhi was leading in the boys under-13 category. He carded 84 and was two strokes ahead of Aditya Singh, also of Delhi. Jaskirat Singh Patiala was in the third place with 87. Roger Hilton from Dehra Dun was at the fourth spot with a score of 88.

Earlier, Andrew J Gosain, chairman St Xavier’s Schools Management inaugurated the meet in which 114 golfers from all over the country are taking part in the IGU categoried tournament.

Tomorrow the girls will also tee off.

Cricket trials
Trials to select under-16 District Panchkula cricket team in the boys group to take part in the Haryana state cricket championship will be held on October 17 at Sector 5 Cricket Stadium, Panchkula.

Players born on or after September 1, 1982 are eligible for the trials.The trials would commence at 9 a.m.

Title for MCM
MCM DAV-36 bagged the title in the Panjab University Inter-College `A’ division women’s kho-kho championship held at PU Campus today.

Government College for Girls-11 got the second position while GGS College-26 were placed third in the meet.

In the last league match, MCM beat GCG-11, 9-5. In another match GGS-26 defeated Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, 11-8.

Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana outplayed Government College for Girls-11, 15-5, 15-0, 15-2 in the Panjab University Inter-College `A’division women’s volleyball championship being played at PU Campus. KCW, Ludhiana in their second outing prevailed over SMS, Miani 15-3, 15-5, 15-9. MCM DAV-36 college also scored victories in both their league matches.

Results: MCM DAV-36 bt SMS Karamjot College for Women, Miani 15-6, 15-5, 15-10; GCG-11 lost to MCM DAV-36, 0-15, 3-15, 11-15.
