Kingfisher chief Vijay Mallya today made out a case for allowing Kingfisher Airlines to serve wine and beer on board during its domestic flights. Mallya said he had already approached the government seeking permission and was awaiting its response.

Speaking on the sidelines of the US-India Aviation Partnership Summit, Mallya said if national carriers during their international flights could serve wine and beer on board and land in more than one destination in the country, then why shouldn’t domestic carriers be allowed to do the same.

Currently, no domestic airline is allowed to serve liquor on board a flight. Mallya said that he was looking forward to serve low-cost wines and beers on his airlines.

Meanwhile, even as the flexi-use of airspace between defence and civil aviation authorities is under consideration, many speakers during the summit today said almost 70 per cent of Delhi’s airspace was under defence control and that there was an urgent need to free more airspace for civilian aircraft movement.
