The Planning Commission may have finally given the Mayawati Government the go-ahead on the new Ganga Expressway, but the green signal does not indicate a clear course for Behenji’s showpiece highway project. The tentative alignment threatens to eat into the territory owned by erstwhile royals, Rajkumari Ratna Singh of Kalakankar, and more notably Mayawati’s bete noire Raja Raghuraj Pratap Singh of Kunda and his relative Rajkumar Amresh Singh of Bainti estate—which all fall on the banks of the Ganga. While Mayawati is in no mood to relent, the affected parties are said to be in a huddle, even contemplating legal action.
