CALCUTTA, December 28: The formidable Australians would be relying on their strong batting line-up to regain the Women’s Cricket World Cup when they clash with a spirited New Zealand in the final at the Eden Gardens here tomorrow.

The Australians, who had last won the coveted cup in 1988, can hardly afford to be complacent against the determined Kiwis in what promises to be an exciting summit showdown.

The New Zealand women have given a good account of themselves in the championship so far and would leave no stone unturned to lift the Cup for the first time. They had lost to England in the final of the previous World Cup.

Both the teams appear to be quite balanced on paper though the Aussies, who have maintained their dominance in the women’s cricket scene for a long time, have the experience to keep their composure in crunch situations.

The Aussies have won the Cup thrice ever since it’s inception in 1973 and it remains to be seen whether they can add another glorious chapter to their cricket history by winning for the fourth time.

The Aussies, who topped group A with an unbeaten track record, have been convincing right through the championship, virtually reducing many of the league matches to ridiculously one-sided contests. They defeated defending champions England by eight wickets and then thrashed Netherlands by 115 runs in the quarter-finals at Lucknow. They romped into the final with a 19-run victory over hosts India in a curtailed semi-final at New Delhi.
