Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and R.K. Dhawan may be sent as Central observers to Kerala for elections to the Rajya Sabha. The role of observers would be crucial in Kerala this time as a faction with a considerable number of members is supporting senior party leader Karunakaran, who has put up his candidate Govindan Nair.Though the party had expelled Nair yesterday, Karunakaran is adamant on backing him. His rebellious stand stems from his disappointment with the choice of the two official nominees for the election. Of the two official candidates, former KPCC chief Thennala Balakrishna Pillai is said to be on surer ground than AICC general secretary Vayalar Ravi.
