In a preliminary report to the AICC on the Congress’s rout in Kerala in the election, KPCC acting president P P Thankachan, has blamed lack of unity among Cabinet members, poor support from social groups like the NSS and SNDP, and a host of anti-people measures by the A K Antony government.

He has also urged the AICC to immediately send a senior observer to the state to initiate remedial action.

Maintaining that these were his personal views on the drubbing, Thankachan says organisational machinery of the party also miserably failed during electioneering. Workers were not interested in campaigning for any candidate as they had little to cheer about the three-year UDF rule in the state.

This apart, the government staff and farmers also turned against the government in protest against various measures that were not well appreciated. ‘‘The LDF also took advantage of the delay in finalising the list of candidates. Even after the list was announced, inner party squabbling continued, making a mockery of the whole exercise,’’ Thankachan told The Indian Express.
