NOVEMBER 7: Thirteen New Meet records and one state record were re-written on the final day of the Open State-level athletic meet, sponsored by Bharat Petroleum and conducted by Thane Metropolitan Gymkhana, at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium today.

Kunal Roy Choudhary of Vidya Bhavan was the star of the day. He finished the glamorous 100 metres dash in 11.2 seconds in the boys under-18 section, a new state record. Close on his heels was Tushar Sutar of Kreeda Prabodhini (Pune) with a timing of 11.3 seconds.

Three men created new meet records — Biju Thomas of Nagindas Khandwala clocked 49.1 sec in 400m, Sachin Gosar of Pro-Track cleared 14.45m in the triple jump, while team-mate Arun Uchil hurled the disc to 46.0m.

In the boys under-20, Sheikh Mehmood clocked 4:08.9 sec in the 1500m, Sunil D cleared a distance of 14.03m in triple jump, and Maxson Furtado of Nagindas Khandwala threw the disc to a distance of 41.16 m.

In the boys under-18 section, Anand Kilbile of Kreeda Prabodhini clocked 51.7 sec in the 400mrun. The team of Kreeda Prabodhini (Aurangabad) were among the records in the boys under-16 section with a timing of 46.2 sec.Aparna Badkar of Central Railway (Pune) jumped 5.70m and created a new Meet record in the women’s section. Ruta Patkar added another gold and also created a new Meet record to take her tally to two when she finished the 100m in 12.6 sec.

The team championships in the men’s and women’s sections were won by Nagindas Khandwala and Dynamos Sports Club, Thane, respectively.
