Kunjarani Devi was today awarded the fourth position in place of Aye Khine Nan of Myanmar, who returned a positive drug test, in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event of the competition held on Saturday.

Kunjarani, who had lifted 190kg (82.5 + 107.5) to tie with Khine, had ended up fifth because of a higher bodyweight. The Indian weighed 47.78kg while the Myanmar lifter was 47.48kg.

International Weightlifting Federation confirmed that Kunjarani got elevated by one position after the International Olympic Committee pronounced 27-year-old Khine guilty of using an anabolic steroid. Khine said she had been

taking a herbal remedy on a regular basis and that the team doctor had not fully checked its contents.

An IOC spokesman said the doping test had been carried out on Thursday, the day before the Games opened. Her fourth place finish has been declared null and void.
