NEW DELHI, MARCH 25: Based on Romesh Sharma’s nephew Surinder Mishra’s statement, the police today arrested Dolly Virdi and Sonu Virdi in connection with the murder of Kunzom Budhraj. The sisters, who were ex-employees of Romesh Sharma, reportedly helped the murderers of Kunzom escape.
According to the Delhi police, Mishra has also confirmed the statement given to the Ahemdabad police alleging that Romesh Sharma had “ordered his girlfriend’s killing”. Dolly and Sonu, says a senior police official requesting anonymity, have told the police that Romesh Sharma had asked them to go to the farmhouse the day Kunzom was murdered. He had written a letter asking them to perform a puja on the occasion of Navratri. Incidentally, Kunzom’s parents say that she also went to the farmhouse to perform the puja, as directed by Sharma.
Kunzom was stabbed at Sharma’s farmhouse in Chattarpur by four youths, who were accompanied by his nephew Mishra, on March 20. According to the caretaker of the house and eye-witness to the murder, Ram Achal Tewari and other security guards the two girls were outside the farmhouse when the crime was committed and helped the assailants get away. Mishra was arrested by the Ahemdabad police and was brought in to the Capital.Tejinder alias Dolly is in her late twenties and is older than Sonu by around five-six years. She was reportedly appointed an office-bearer for the women’s wing of the All India Bharatiya Congress, a political outfit that Sharma had floated last year.
The two women frequently visited Sharma at Tihar and according to the police they were also regulars at his court hearings. The two were also given the power of attorney by Sharma in an application seeking the release of his fleet of imported cars.
Kunzom’s family have repeatedly alleged that she had been threatened by Dolly on several occasions. Dolly, they say, perceived Kunzom as a threat to her relation with Sharma. Rani, Kunzom’s mother, also says that Sharma had asked Kunzom to convert his farmhouse into an ashram or mandir. According to Rani, he had apparently sent a letter through his nephew Mishra, who showed it to Dolly and Sonu before giving it to Kunzom.
The police are also probing the property angle. Dolly, Sonu and Mishra were all very close to Sharma and following his arrest all of them were keeping a tab on his vast property. According to the Budhraj family, Mishra and the rest were after Sharma’s property and felt threatened that everything would go to Kunzom.
