KV, Refinery students win painting contest

VADODARA, Jan 21: Swastik Mohanty of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Harni and Siddharth Shrimali of Refinery School won the painting contest organised jointly by The Indian Express and Pepsi at Vidyavihar School on Thursday as part of the inter-school talent championship trophy.

The participants were divided into two groups, with the first group comprising students in the six to 12 age group and the second of those above 12 years. Mohanty bagged the prize in the first group, while Shrimali of the second group won in Group II.

The first group was asked to paint on either a scene at the railway station, the kite festival, or favourite pet, and the second group had to choose from festival, measures to prevent pollution or mother in the kitchen.

As many as 22 students of various city-based schools participated in the contest. The students were judged on the basis of the total effect of the painting, the colour used by students and the composition of the total picture.

Kinjal Chauhan of Vidya Vihar and Shubhra Singh of St Paul School were declared the runners-up of Group I, while Neha Goradia of Navrachana High School and P Kattyayini of Refinery School were declared the runners-up in the second group.

Talking to Express Newsline, Shrimali said it was easier painting when a specific topic as given. He said division of students on the basis of age made the contest competitive and challenging.

Kattyayini said the topics choosen by the organisers were very local and participants had expected such topics.

Besides students of various schools, deaf and dumb children of the Akshar school also took part in the contest.

This contest is the second last contest being conducted as part of the talent search contest organised by The Indian Express. The last contest, a dance competition, will be held next month.
