Sri Lankan police have taken into custody 14 Indian men for overstaying their visas, officials said today. The men were arrested at the eastern town of Kalmunai, police said, adding they were probably trying to board a boat for Europe. The arrests come 15 days after 175 would-be illegal immigrants from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan were arrested as they were leaving for Italy. Last month police arrested 661 Indians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.
