The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today said it would consider any proposal in writing from the Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi to resolve the Ayodhya issue even as AIMPLB vice president Maulana Kalbe Sadique withdrew his resignation tendered reportedly following differences in the group.

‘‘Though the matter is in the court and we have made it clear that we shall abide by the court verdict, if a good proposal comes to us from any quarter, we shall consider it,’’ AIMPLB President and noted Islamic scholar Maulana Rabe Hasan Nadvi said here.

The Maulana denied the temple issue was discussed during his recent meeting with the Shankaracharya. ‘‘The Shankaracharya had come to inquire about my health. We did not discuss the temple issue, though he said he had some proposal to resolve the dispute,’’ Nadvi said.

Excavation: ASI asks for 15 days more

AYODHYA: The Archaeological Survey of India, excavating the disputed site to ascertain whether a temple pre-existed the Babri Mosque, has sought 15 days more to complete work. Sources said leader of the ASI team, Hari Majhi, submitted an application to the two observers appointed by Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court. (PTI)

‘‘I asked him to send his proposals in writing,’’ he said adding that so far he had not received any thing from the Shankaracharya. ‘‘If any written proposal comes, I shall refer it to the (AIMPLB) working committee which will consider it,’’ he said.

Nadvi reacted sharply to the statement by the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari that AIMPLB would not be allowed to bargain on the Babri Masjid issue saying Bukhari was in the habit of making ‘‘irresponsible remarks.’’

Replying to a question, he said Kalve Sadique had withdrawn his resignation. ‘‘Sadique had resigned due to his other pre-occupations but he has now withdrawn his resignation,’’ Nadvi added.

Maulana Nadvi said he hoped the court decision on the Ayodhya issue would come soon and he believed it would put an end to the dispute.

Answering another question, he said there was no move to disband Babri Masjid Action Committee.
