The construction of new judicial complex in Sector 43 has hit a roadblock. The lawyers of the UT District Bar Association filed a counter-reply in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday objecting to the Rs 56.46 crore estimated budget of the UT Administration for the construction of the complex.

Stating that it is not possible for advocates to shell out such a huge amount, lawyers stated that the estimate was in complete violation of the decision taken by the Building committee. They submitted that the Building committee (comprising of High Court judges) had decided to lease out the judicial complex. The lawyers demanded that the issue be handed over to the committee than the UT Administration deciding on it.

Objecting to the demand on the other hand, senior standing counsel for the UT Administration, Advocate Anupam Gupta, said the case should be decided by the High Court. The case was adjourned after Gupta promised to resolve the issue. The budget is the rough cost the Chandigarh Administration worked out for the construction of 440 chambers for lawyers.
