Kar sevaks Santosh Dubey and Amarnath Goel maintain it’s time to speak out. Among the 49 accused in the demolition of the Babri Masjid, the duo was part of the five-member group which alleged Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani had insitigated the mob to pull down the mosque. They had also spoken out against the ‘‘preferential treatment’’ being given to top BJP leaders, including Advani.‘‘Advani was there among 3 lakh people. We will not be the bali ka bakra (sacrificial lambs). Why has the CBI made three categories A, B and C? Those with influence are in C. Only eight to 10 people are there when summons are issued. If the court thinks we are all guilty, we should be treated equally,’’ Goel told The Indian Express at his two-storey house in Delhi’s Mandawli.Dubey’s more direct. He says they have been ‘‘betrayed’’ by Advani. ‘‘I had great respect for Advani then because it was he who took out the Rath yatra for the temple cause. I decided to follow his words and go to Ayodhya.’’Sitting in his house in Bikapur, 30 km from Faizabad, Dubey says a handful have been made to suffer by the prosecution while influential BJP leaders who have long abandoned the mandir issue were ‘‘enjoying the fruits of power’’.‘‘Where are the BJP, VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders who instigated us to demolish the Babri mosque? They are enjoying the fruits of power after exploiting our religious sentiments for political gain,’’ Dubey told The Indian Express.‘‘People are even saying I have been planted to defame Advani. This is rubbish. We have suffered for years,’’ he says.Although both Goel and Dubey are part of the same group, the two differ in their approach to the new controversy they have ignited.Fifty four-year-old Goel, a family man who runs an electrical shop, says he doen’t want to single out any BJP leader. Nor does he wish to discuss the Babri Masjid. He says he is ‘‘fed up with politics where gaddars prosper and honest people fail.’’ He fought for a MLA seat in the 1990s and lost. But Dubey maintains he’s still married to the cause. He says he will remain part of the movement to build the Ram temple. Dubey has 16 criminal cases pending against him, including four attempts to murder, and says he’s ready to die for the temple cause.‘‘I now feel Advani has betrayed the country and Lord Ram by going back on his resolve to construct the temple. He (Advani) may have betrayed us but we will not sit idle.’’‘‘We are contacting the real kar sevaks, R N Das (part of the group) has gone on that mission. We will build our own cadre and wait for six months after which we’ll start forcible construction of the temple like we did in 1992,’’ he says.He then tells you that ever since he and the others spoke out against the BJP leaders, they’ve been feeling insecure. ‘‘All of us are being threatened and you will not find us at home,’’ alleges Dubey.Goel too says his family will never tell people of his whereabouts. ‘‘My children will never reveal my whereabouts. They will tell people that I’m not around.’’Goel’s wife and children are unhappy with his involvement in politics. His career in politics began in the early ’80s when he joined the Youth Congress in Punjab. In 1986, Goel moved to Delhi and the Shiv Sena. ‘‘After Sanjay Gandhi’s death, I didn’t like the atmosphere in the Congress and I knew people in the Shiv Sena. He refuses to discuss the demolition. He says he’s an accused because he told a newspaper at the time of the demolition that he had taken part.
