England and Leeds United striker Alan Smith was arrested on Thursday over an alleged bottle-throwing incident during a League Cup match against Manchester United last month. Smith was questioned and later released on bail. A West Yorkshire police spokeswoman said: “A 23-year-old man was arrested by officers.in Leeds today and questioned in relation to an alleged incident at the Leeds United versus Manchester United fixture on October 28. “He was questioned and released on police bail to return to a police station at a later date. A file will be sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.” Earlier on Thursday Smith was added to the England squad for Sunday’s friendly against Denmark. The English Football Association made no immediate comment.
