Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday assured the nation that bird flu in West Bengal was being controlled. “Lesser number of birds are dying due to the disease. We are confident that we would be able to contain the disease soon,” he said after a meeting called to review the situation.
The Ministry has written to the Ministry of External Affairs to request more information from Bangladesh which had recently reported a few bird flu cases. Ramadoss said this would help the Government trace the possible origin of the virus in West Bengal.
Ramadoss said he was satisfied with the steps being taken by the West Bengal Government to cope with the outbreak and said request for monetary and other help from the state have been accepted. During the meeting, the representative is reported to have said no further support was required from the Centre.
