Notorious international criminal Charles Sobhraj’s 19-year-old girlfriend has claimed to have received death threats from a local jailed criminal, whom she also accused of demanding Rs one crore from her lover.
Nihita Bishwas, who earlier hit headlines for disclosing her affair with 64-year-old Sobhraj, charged that Tashi Lama, serving life term on murder and robbery charges in the Central Jail where the ‘bikini killer’ is also lodged, threatened to kill both her and her boyfriend through phone calls made by his friends.
“Lama’s friends have threatened me and my family as well as Sobhraj,” she told reporters on Monday, adding the criminal had also demanded Rs one crore from her boyfriend. Lama, Biswas said, claimed that he had links with the Maoists-affiliated Young Communist League.
She also claimed that Lama had seized documents related to court proceedings from Sobhraj and said she had lodged a complaint with the jail administration regarding this but they did not listen to her.
Biswas, who wants to marry Sobhraj once he is released from jail, also accused the jail authorities of being corrupt and allowing a prisoner to do whatever he liked.
Biswas’ mother Shakuntala Thapa, a lawyer who was also present at the press meet, said that the family has been changing residences from time-to-time due to the threats.
