They had been alerted by a retired teacher, who used to stay in the bungalow during nights. He evoked no response from the widow to repeated knocks on the door.

Immediately on entering the house, the relatives found that the entire house had been ransacked, its rear door was open. They found that Satyabhama’s newly-appointed servant, Sachadeva, was missing.

Satyabhama lay still on a settee in the drawing room. Apparently, the killer had delivered several vicious blows all over the body before strangulating her.

The police shifted Satyabhama to the Sassoon Hospital where the widow was declared dead on arrival.

According to the relatives, Satyabhama’s domestic staff included a full-time servant and a part-time maid. Satyabhama had hired the new servant on Tuesday because the regular servant had gone to his native place.
