Deviating from the normal practice of taking up a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Presidential address first, the Lok Sabha would debate the issue of anti-north Indian campaign unleashed in Maharashtra on February 27. This was announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the House on Monday.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee accepted the demand made by RJD, JD(U) and others in view of the fact that the issue involves Fundamental Rights as enshrined in the Constitution, sources said.

Consequently, the discussion on the Motion of Thanks has been deferred till February 28. The motion will be debated till March 4. BJP leader V K Malhotra said the party would try to move at least 55 amendments to the address. It has also announced that it will press for the suspension of Question Hour on the issue of farmers’ suicides.
