CALCUTTA, Aug 10: The Next Annual General Meeting of the Board for Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be held on September 21 and 22 in Chennai. While informing this, the acting secretary of the BCCI, Jaywant Yeshwant Lele said that many important issues will come up in the general body meeting.
The special general body meeting held here today, lasted just over an hour as most the items in the agenda were settled without much trouble. Kerala Cricket Association President A Salim has been appointed the administrative manager for the Sahara Cup and the Pakistan tour in September.
The team for the Sahara Cup in Toronto will be selected on August 29 at Mumbai. The squad will leave for Canada in the early hours of September 10 from New Delhi, after attending a five-day preparatory camp. The venue for the camp is yet to be decided.
Lele informed that the special general meeting had also ratified Professor Ratnakar Shetty’s appointment as the administrative manager for the Asia Cup and the Sri Lankan tour.
The secretary also brushed aside rumours that Indian team coach Madan Lal will be replaced before the completion of his term. He said that Lal will be persisted with till the Pakistan tour at least. Madan Lal’s one-year term expires at the end of September.
A BCCI technical committee had suggested to the International Cricket Conference (ICC) that the one-bouncer-per-over rule be extended to One-dayers also. Cricket’s apex body, in its reply, had asked the BCCI to experiment with the rule for a year. It was decided in the meeting that in the coming season, the one-bouncer-per-over rule will be applied in all domestic one-day matches.
However, BCCI has rejected another ICC suggestion which wanted the use of lights in day matches, to complete the stipulated quota of 90 overs in a day.
The special general meeting also deliberated on the formation of a Trust for the BCCI and creating the post of a permanent invitee in the Board for the ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya. It was decided that a committee should be formed to go into details regarding both the matters.
