Maha to implement all recommendations of Sachar panel: CM

Maharashtra govt would implement all recommendations of Sachar Committee in the state, CM Vilasrao Deshmukh has said.

Maharashtra government would implement all recommendations of Sachar Committee in the state and an independent Minority Welfare Department will be set up for the purpose soon, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said.

Winding up the discussion under Rule 260 on Sachar Committee report implementation, Deshmukh made an announcement to this effect in Upper House Monday night.

After the marathon four-hour discussion, he also said a thought would be given to provide reservation to Muslims after understanding related aspects from the Minority Commission. To conduct survey of socio-economic condition of Muslims in the state, an apolitical study group would be constituted soon which would comprise scholars.

Following the Centre, Maharashtra would also provide scholarships to Muslim students and facilities for skill development would also be extended.

Muslims would also get representation on the selection committee for class I and II employees, the Chief Minister said. Further, representation in housing society plot allotments and MHADA schemes would be ensured for them in terms of percentage, he added.
