Senior BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanand today took strong exception to the reported statement of VHP vice-president Giriraj Kishore claiming that Paramhans Ramchandra Das had suffered a heart attack due to his unsuccessful talks with Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani recently.

‘‘How can the VHP leader connect the heart attack of the mahant with his talks with Advani when he was not present there,’’ he said.

Talking to mediapersons, the minister claimed that Paramhans was happy after his talks with Advani at New Delhi on June 2 and there was no question of any ‘‘tension’’ during the meeting.

On whether the VHP leader was trying to take political mileage out of the issue, he refused to comment, saying only Kishore would speak about his motive.

Chinmayanand called at the hospital as well. He said the mahant was recovering fast and had even talked to him this morning about the initiative taken for early construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya.

‘‘The mahant was emotional about the construction of the temple even at the hospital,’’ the minister said.

Meanwhile, the mahant’s condition is stable but still critical, hospital sources said here today. He had a good night’s rest, but he is still not out of danger, sources said. He is under observation and the next 24 hours are critical for him, sources said.

The mahant suffered a massive heart attack yesterday and was admitted at the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute. VHP international president Ashok Singhal called at the hospital, sources added.
