In a major bureaucratic reshuffle today, Textile Secretary S.B. Mahapatra was appointed as new Commerce Secretary in place of Dipak Chatterjee, who has been asked to join as Chairman of the newly-constituted Competition Commission.

Replacing Mahapatra is Fertiliser Secretary Nripendra Mishra and Additional Secretary (Coal) Lakshmi Chand has been promoted and appointed in Mishra’s position.

Among the changes is transfer of Arun Bhatnagar, Food and Public Distribution Secretary, to Dept of Personnel & Training in place of S.S. Dawra who retires tomorrow.

Secretary Small Scale Industries S.K. Tuteja has been shifted to Bhatnagar’s position, while Additional Secretary (Agriculture & Cooperation) B.S. Minhas has been promoted to fill Tuteja’s post.

Shekhar Dutt has been promoted as Secretary, Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy in place of Malti S. Sinha who superannuates tomorrow. Binoo Sen, who now heads Animal Husbandry will replace Water Resources Secretary A.K. Goswami who also retires tomorrow. Additional Secretary (Water Resources) Radha Singh will fill Sen’s seat.

A.K. Singh will be the new Addl Secretary (Coal), while J.P. Singh has been shifted as DG, Sports Authority of India in the rank of Addl Secretary.
