Vadodara, April 30: A section of Vadodara Municipal Corporation councillors has expressed apprehensions of octroi evasion in view of the two-month-long traffic diversion on National Highway no 8.
The Vasad-Umeta-Vadodara stretch, connected by the Mahi bridge, will be closed from the Ahmedabad-end from May 1 to June 30 for repairs.
Councillor Ajit Patel told Express Newsline that he and a few other councillors had apprised the VMC authorities of their fear that the unscrupulous would manage to evade octroi taking advantage of the new route.
Under the alternative arrangements, made with the assistance of the authorities of Vadodara and Anand districts, the Mumbai-bound traffic on this stretch of the national highway will be diverted to an alternate route.
Traffic going towards Ahmedabad, however, will be allowed to cross the bridge in one lane at a maximum speed of 30 kmph, an official release said.
Traffic coming from Ahmedabad towards Vadodara will take the road from Vasad to Umeta bridge and then from Umeta bridge to Sevasi and Gotri (Vadodara).
Likewise, traffic going towards Por and Karjan will take Mujpur bridge from Vasad, then take Padra Road from Mujpur and finally take the national highway through Vadsar village road via Jambuva.
