CHANDIGARH, Dec 6: Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Mahilpur and Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, retained the titles in the men’s and women’s categories, with 51 and 59 points, respectively, in the 51st Punjab University athletic meet which concluded at PU Campus here today. The highlight of the day was a meet record in the men’s 400 metres.

Amarjeet Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, winner of gold medals in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres and silver in 800-metre was adjudged the best female athlete while Taminderpal Singh of SGGS, Mahilpur, was declared the best male athlete of the meet. Taminderpal got gold in 400 metres low-hurdles, bronze in 100-metre dash and silver in 110 metres hurdles.

Baljit Singh, winner of the gold medal in the 200 metres won another gold, which came in the 400-metre with a new meet mark of 48.6.

The old mark of 48.9 was set in 1979 by Daya Singh of Government College, Hoshiarpur.

In the 110 metres hurdles, Gurpreet Singh of GNN College, Doraha, clocked 15.0 seconds to equal the meet mark.
